Drawing on her varied and well-rounded performance background, Zoe Jakes has developed a versatile instruction style all her own.

Katarina Burda (an original member of Bal-Anat) was her first Teacher and influence, and Zoe was a company member of Katarina's Troop Aywah! Along with the talented Mira Betz, also a inspiration and longtime Teacher,  and Elizabeth Strong, whom she spent years performing in the Bay area with their group, Arabesque. She went on to perform with Suhaila Salimpour, spent a few years learning how to get into people's faces in Extra Action Marching Band, and immersed herself in Vaudeville- Americana touring with the Yard Dogs Road Show. A proud member of The Indigo  Belly Dance Company, Zoe holds Mardi Love and Rachel Brice amongst her Teachers and Inspiration.

Currently Zoe is touring with her band, Beats Antique, a group that has several albums and hundreds of live shows under their belt. She designs and makes many of her own costumes and co-produces tracks with Beats Antique adding set designer and stylist to her body of work.

Zoe has the desire and opportunity to bring Belly Dance to the masses, having performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonneroo Festivals in front of thousands of people who don't know Belly Dance from and Elephant. It is her passion that Belly Dance can get a wider recognition and respect, and as a touring workshop instructor her classes reflect this ideal, focusing on strong technique and long term motivation.

Shahrzad is an Internationally known Belly Dance Teacher and performer who has been enchanting the stage since she discovered her passion for Arabic dance and music at the age of 11. Since then, she has immersed herself in a variety of dance disciplines-including Modern Oriental Dance as well as many regional and folkloric dance styles from North Africa and the Middle East. Her professional career started when she was 17, working full time as a performer at shows with live bands at top venues in Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York City.  Most of Shahrad's technique and choreography is influenced by her tutelage while in Egypt, where she was mentored by expert belly dance teachers. These mentorships opened the doors to perform at larger arena settings for famous arabic musicians, cultural demonstrations at Embassies & Universities, and headlining at International events.  As a result if her studies Shahrzad has established  herself as an Instructor of workshops, International events, as well as a performer featured all over the world.

Shahrzad has been mentored by some of the top Egyptian dance instructors including Madame Raqia Hassan, Nourhan Sharif, Faten Salama, Habiba, and many more. She has traveled extensively to do in depth study about the music, dance and cultural traditions so she can give students a deeper knowledge of the roots of belly dance as well as it's modern uses. Inspired by her interest in teaching, Shahrzad underwent a 2 year Pilates apprenticeship. Now as a fully certified Pilates instructor with extensive knowledge in anatomy and movement she is able to bring a new level of education to her students by breaking down technique in detailed terms and create excellent conditioning and exercises made specifically for dancers.
