ART OF THE BELLY
BODY & MIND PREP FOR FESTIVAL SUCCESS
SATURDAY 8AM - 9AM
Start your weekend from a centered place. So much happens in such a short time at a dance festival. Often lack of sleep, travel fatigue, performance nerves and just the excitement of a festival can make you lose focus. Join Belladonna as she leads you through some of her student's favorite "rolling around the floor" movements to help prepare your body for a full day of new dance techniques, performances and photo shoots. Bella will also use her unique approach to help you mentally set yourself up for a successful weekend. We can absorb, learn and move with grace when we are subtle and mindful. Great to help you feel refreshed, retain more of your workshops and for performance and photo shoot prep! No experience necessary. Yoga mat, blocks and strap recommended
RECOVER, RESTORE & RESET
SUNDAY 8:30AM - 9:30AM
Whether you need to recover from a late Sat night or your looking to kick start a fantastic Sunday, this class is for you! Belladonna knows what Sunday morning can feel like when you have been over stimulated, overly stressed and super excited! This class will focus on taking a moment to activate your parasympathetic nervous system and reboot your adrenal system, meaning "rest and digest" and "refill your cup". One hour of restorative practice, stress relief and vitality restoration. Great to help you feel refreshed, help retain more of your workshops and for performance & photo shoot prep! No experience necessary. Yoga mat, blocks and strap recommended

Carmine LOVES teaching. Carmine mostly teaches drum workshops for the Middle Eastern hand-drum known as the doumbek (also known as the darbuka and tabla). He feels so fortunate to be able to give others the gift of music. Often, someone who has never played a musical instrument in their life, will be able to play several rhythms after just one class! He travels all over the country (and world) teaching workshops. Carmine has instructional videos and recently started offering Skype lessons.
Carmine has had the joy of teaching and performing in several Bellydance Festivals. Here is a list of states where I have taught: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington
List of countries where I have taught: Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico
Additionally, sheet music and recordings of mine are being used for Carnegie Hall's Citi Global Encounters program which introduces high school students to music styles from around the world.
Carmine performs several times a week here in New York City with a different ensembles as well as at several Bellydance Festivals around the country. When traveling, it's a lot of fun to quickly put together a house band and play music for dancers. I also like to organize jams and encourage everyone to play music with me regardless of their skill level or experience.

Farida was given her name at the Middle Eastern School of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. Her Lebanese instructor took one look at her red hair and dubbed her “Farida” which means “unique.” She spent the next year and a half living as Farida and learning about the Arabic language, culture, food, and music. Back in the early 90’s she couldn’t have predicted how she would use that education later in life.
When her time in the military concluded, Farida left the Army and her Arabic name behind. As Valerie McParland she attended West Virginia University where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. Eventually her life and travels brought her and her family to Maryland. While living in the Baltimore-Washington area she took her first belly dance class at Slayton House in Columbia with Mia Naja al Saphira. That one class turned into years of obsessive study with Mia Naja, Naimah, and Piper. These amazing instructors gave her the privilege of dancing with M.O.D.E, Amandari, and the Daughters of Rhea. Farida was Farida once more!
Farida has inherited the program where she began as a student 14 years ago. She teaches Beginning and Intermediate students at Slayton House in Columbia. She runs an accelerated class from her home studio as well as adult and children’s programs at Passport Homeschool Co-op. It was in the Passport children’s class that she developed the games and techniques she uses to teach the Mini Shimmy program. Farida directs the Al Safaar student troupe. With Naimah’s help, she has recently taken the reigns and organizes the annual Moments of Magic Hafla that is held each spring in Columbia, MD.
